Navigators & General and River Canal Rescue collaborate in industry first

Navigators & General the UK’s leading pleasurecraft insurer and part of the Zurich group, has teamed up with River Canal Rescue to be the first pleasurecraft insurer to offer a dedicated marine rescue service, as part of standard inland waterways policy cover.

River Canal Rescue (RCR) is the UK’s only dedicated inland waterways service and offers a range of breakdown, repair, recovery and repatriation services to members. Now anyone taking out a Navigators & General inland waterways policy, issued by Navigators & General, will automatically benefit from membership to RCR and standard breakdown cover for the insured vessel.

This is an industry first as although available, no one has ever offered this service as part of a standard policy wording. This should now allow boat owners to enjoy the peace of mind that one expects from a motor recovery service, without having to worry about extra costs or the hassle of renewing a separate form of cover.

James Roberts, Head of Navigators & General said “We are delighted to have this unique and market leading collaboration with RCR and to be the first pleasurecraft insurer to offer breakdown assistance as part of standard policy cover; it gives real added value. With the personal and professional service RCR offer we can see immediate benefits for our policy holders and long term benefits through increased policy sales.

Stephanie Horton MD of RCR said ‘We have been immensely impressed with the way that N&G work, their philosophy clearly has the customer and service at the heart of it and is an excellent fit with RCR. We wanted to ensure that we teamed up with a company who wanted to deliver the same excellent services and keep to the core values we operate within….. the team at N&G are committed to this and we think it is great that customers will at last be offered the facilities that are an every day expectation in motoring world.’

RCR recognise the service they have built up and have worked hard to ensure they provide its members with a security net by taking on 3 new engineers, as well as a number of new office staff next season as a result of this collaboration. This will ensure that they maintain the same quality of service, with the predicted increase in demand.
