Engine maintenance
How well are you running?
Many claims made for engines are not covered by the owner’s insurance policy and could perhaps have been avoided in the first place. A well maintained engine is less likely to let you down at a vital moment, not leaving you stranded. Taking a pro-active, preventative approach will probably work out less onerous on your wallet in the long-run!
Did you know?
- Engine maintenance - A programme of simple maintenance is far better than leaving things until they get so bad they can’t be avoided.
- Like a motor vehicle policy, marine insurance policies carry restrictions and you should check yours carefully, so you know what is covered. Speedboats usually have their own special clauses, as do craft used for racing.
- For a claim to be valid, reasonable precautions must be taken, for example, in avoiding problems caused by frost damage.
- Major incidents, such as accidental incursion of water, grounding, hitting an underwater object or fire are covered as standard in most policies. And it’s re-assuring that most modern engines are built to last.
- The case of a Seagull outboard motor that successfully started after spending several weeks submerged underwater once first aid was applied, proves that a well-maintained engine probably won’t let you down!
